A21 Torino-Piacenza reopened to traffic on both lanes between Broni and Casteggio

18 July 2023

The A21 between the Broni and Casteggio toll gate, in the direction of Turin, was reopened to traffic at 9:27 a.m., and at 10:09 a.m. in the direction of Piacenza. Traffic continues regularly in both directions after demolition operations were completed during the night for the overpass at km 125, which was severely damaged following an accident between two heavy vehicles yesterday morning.

Thanks to the timely and punctual intervention of ASTM Group subsidiaries Satap, Sina and Itinera, it was possible to proceed with the demolition of the overpass in record time. Demolition operations began at 10:00 p.m. yesterday with the arrival of two excavators equipped with quick attachments including a grapple and a demolition hammer, three back up excavators, six skid steers, two-wheel loaders, a broom and two flatbeds. These tools made it possible to create the gaps in the safety barriers and prepare the bottom without ruining the existing asphalt. From midnight, the actual demolition operations began and ended at 6:00 a.m., with temporary storage of the rubble at the Satap maintenance center in Stradella. The safety of the intervention area was then guaranteed, thanks to the placement of new jerseys as a temporary replacement for the guardrails.

The intervention was possible thanks to the presence of the concessionaire Satap, which assisted with the work; the Group's engineering company, Sina, which verified the extent of the damage suffered by the overpass; and Itinera, which carried out the work as the Group's EPC company.
